Dear Reader:

Have you ever wondered where inspiration comes from? Sometimes I wonder where do all those writers like Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, James Baldwin, Kurt Vonnegut, Virginia Wolf and many others find their muses and develop master pieces. I used to believe they had a secret source of power, like a magic spell that gave them the correct words to write into their works but the truth is, we all know that this is not how it works. After reading each book, short story or poem I started to look for their author’s background. I discovered that inspiration comes from experiences. The most insignificant event can become the inspiration of an unforgettable song, poem, story, or novel.

The best example of inspiration is the writer Judith Ortiz Cofer. Her inspiration is the product of  mixed cultures within her childhood, a series of summer’s afternoon stories under a mango tree, a military Father, a Catholic Puerto-Rican family, and an unstoppable desire for words. Throughout this blog you will witness the life and inspiration of a Puerto-Rican childhood. I will take through a journey with multiple instances of each one.
Enjoy,
Amanda Dee
